Hanami
Hi everyone, hanami is upon us again but this year there is a distinct lack of excitement as there usually is.
We all are feeling a little strange to be celebrating, but as I said in my last post a little distraction is sometimes a good remedy for settling our minds.
Governor Ishihara has banned hanami in Tokyo at popular parks like Ueno Park.
Some people agree that this is a good decision considering the disaster and nuclear crisis at the moment and maybe it is.
There has been a rising feeling of self-restraint or “jishuku” since the disaster, I realise that it’s a cultural thing which has been reminded through the media.
But I have met quite a few Japanese people that disagree with the governor’s decision and have stated that they want to enjoy at least a small hanami party to uplift their minds.
I can understand both sides of the argument, but that’s why I think charity events are big winners for everyone.
We can have a good time, try to clear our minds, and at the same time raise money or any kind of donations for a very worthy cause.
